  1. This picture looks like a place that has been bombed. There is smoke rising from what seems to be rocks or chucks of a building. The smoke gives the atmosphere a kind of depressed look. Everything in this picture is brown, black, or grey in color. The only thing that is no is the mans's uniform. He has on a yellow coat and a white hard had on. This can symbolize the light in this dark, depressive place. It kind of gives hope in a way. It seems as if everything is dead, but seeing this man gives us hope that there is still life. The colors of the rocks and dead trees symbolize a mournful mood. There are trees in the background. Trees are symbols of life and strength. The smoke in the air gives this picture a hazey feel. I imagine that in that moment, it is silent except for the distant shouting of the men. The man in the yellow coat is pointing off into the distance. He could be signaling for help or he might be pointing the way to safety. This could also be a symbol for his yellow coat.

  2. This image is very dark and solemn. It looks as if there was some sort of forest fire maybe. I see trees still standing up in the background but they are clouded by smoke. Up at the very front of the picture you can see branches and things on the ground. Maybe this was where they stopped the fire? It could be because the branches are not completely burned down and the other trees are still standing. I wonder what else was right here though because there are slabs of concrete it looks like...or maybe those are rocks. Either way, You dont typically see that many rocks around one area unless there was some sort of gathering area there. Personally, I would probably say that it was some sort of small building. The man standing in the picure is very vivid There is smoke all around him but you can see him very clearly. Also, he definitely stands out in this picture. All the other colors are very dark and he is sporting a bright yellow jacket. Possibly a firefighter or park ranger of some sort. This being in the picture could very well symbolize hope. The man is bright and clear in comparison to everything else in the picture so it is something that they wanted you to see. Also, like the other picture, it looks like he is reaching out to somebody or waving somebody over. Probably a member of his team, whatever that might be. The big question I want to know is: how did this fire start? Like any other fire, it could have started from anything. Not to mention, why is this man the only one that is in this area? You can see lots of land in this picture but he is the only person you can see. So does that mean that the extent of the fire is very big and they don't have many people covering the area?

  3. We usually think it's such a terrible thing when the forest is scorched. But really, it's like nature's reset button. It's new life in the making. Where all life burned, new life will appear in its place and everything will be refreshed once again. We've heard more than once, "Things get worse before they get better." Looking at the picture, of course the earth turned to ash isn't exactly beautiful. But in 5 years, merely a blemish on the timeline of the universe, what will stand where these ashes fell? Brand new life will be born from ash. The forest- a phoenix.

  4. There has been a fire. That is pretty evident. You have a burnt down forest with a fireman walking through the destruction. I bet it smells really bad there. Like the smell of burnt trees and rocks and stuff. Perhaps the fire happened and a big group of fireman came to put it out and when they were putting out the massive flames, something exploded, killing all of the firemen but one, the one shown in the picture, and now he is wandering, helpless, through the ruble searching for any sign of help. His arm is raised in the air because he has caught sight of a plain flying overhead. His arm is only raised a little more than half way because the fireman has been traveling for quite some time and is utterly exhausted. The plane does not see him and the man feels totally defeated knowing that he will probably die in this hopeless wasteland. This picture differs from the one shown to us previously because in the last picture there was a sense of hope among the destruction, where in this picture there seems to be no hope. I wonder how the fire started. Maybe a couple of stupid kids having fun out in the wilderness and all of a sudden one of them thought it would be cool to set a monkey on fire and then the monkey, trying to head for safety, jumped into a tree catching some of the leaves on fire, hence, setting the rest of the forest ablaze. Because of stupid kids, we now have a destroyed forest, a team of firemen dead, one still trying to find help, and a burnt to death monkey.

  5. It looks like the aftermath of a forest fire, and the man looks like a firefighter. Helmet, jumpsuit, all that. It looks like the man is waving at somebody, possibly waving them over to him. The man is an interesting color contrast as well. Everything around him is black or brown or white - all very neutral colors. Then he's a small patch of yellow. No matter where you look on the picture, your eye goes back to the man just because of the color juxtaposition. There is smoke rising off the ground, indicating this fire/disaster was quite recent. It also makes the picture feel quite eery, like the disaster isn't quite over. It's very foreboding, and yet here's our brave fire fighter, exploring the damage and waving some of his buddies over. I think the sparse trees in the background add to the sense of destruction. There's a small glimpse of what should have been, and then an overwhelming scene of disaster. The gnarled and burnt limbs and roots in the foreground are creepy as well... They remind me of skeleton hands or tentacles. Like something is crawling up through the ground and it has completely destroyed the land in the process. The firefighter is looking away, thinking that there's no more danger, but really, some H.P. Lovecraft monster is about to make a grande entrance. Eleven seconds... la dee da, la dee da da. Done!

  6. In this photo, there is only one person. It's a man that looks like a firefighter putting out some sort of forest fire. It looks to be in the middle of no where honestly. I wonder if it was in the Rocky Mountains or something. I went there this summer and there were a lot of fires happening. The man should have a house in his hand if he is putting out the fire, but now that I look at it a second time he just looks like his hands are in the air. To look at a bunch of destroyed trees like that is weird and makes me sad and angry at the same time. What caused it? Did it endanger any families or animals? It's things like that that are killing our beautiful nature. I admit I do not like camping or being out in nature all that much, but we should still conserve it. I like looking at how beautiful natural, non-manmade things are. It looks like the trees that were effected must have been very tall and big and old. The roots that are wrangled up in the air in the very front of the picture look like they have been in the ground for awhile. Maybe not like hundreds and hundreds of years, but definitely a decent amount of time. The smoke that is rising off the ground makes the picture eery. I like how the only real color is the shirt of the man. Looking at the whole picture yet again makes it look like it could be the scene of a war bombing or something related to that. The man looks like he could be in the army because his clothes don't look heavy and intense enough to belong to a firefighter. Maybe it was during one of the earlier wars we have had since the hat he has on looks like a simple helmet. Not that I keep thinking of different scenarios I'm not totally sure what I think this picture is about. It is obviously in a destroyed and desolate area of trees or a forest but that is the only thing I can truly identify. This picture is harder to come up with things to type about than the other one because there isn't as much obvious background going on. It has a different mood to it than the other picture we did, a more intense and eye-opening one. The other picture had many more possibilities than this one. I think I like this picture better though because of how lowkey it is. It makes me really really want to know what is happening and the true story behind all of the smoke or fog and why there is only one man.

  7. A forest right after a fire... that is what this picture appears to be. And then, in the middle of it all, is a person. I' m not really sure what he (or she) is doing, but he or she appears to be a firefighter. This picture is really cool. It's foggy with all the smoke, and you can see the faint outline of more trees in the distance. It's kind of intriguing, and mysterious.
I guess free-writing about pictures is hard, because I don't feel like making up a pretend story to go along with it, and there's only so much describing one can do before it starts to get really boring.
Free-writing in general, though, well, I suppose it's kind of fun. I free-write a lot at home, but that's just kind of random. I like the owl today better than the fish from yesterday. Six minutes to go...
Six minutes. I wonder how much damage a forest fire could do in six minutes...? How long did the fire last before this picture was taken? It seems like it must have gone on for a pretty long time, but then again, there are still some trees that survived, so it's maybe not that bad. And really, forest fires are good for the forest sometimes.
Fire... that can sometimes symbolize purification and new beginnings. Fire can be so destructive, yet, like most other things, it also has a positive side.
Only a minute and a half more. How much can one say in a minute and a half? Time is an interesting thing. A minute sounds like no time at all, but sometimes even a few seconds can seem to drag on forever. Oh, look, that was a minute right there. That sure passed quickly. Now only a few more seconds...
    That was an unusual noise.

  8. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with 9/11 or not, but that's the first thing I think of when I look at this picture. It has a fireman and a bunch of rubble around him so that would explain why I think that. However, looking closer at the picture, there a lot of trees around and even branches in the rubble, so maybe it's the result from a recent forest fire? All of the smoke rising up from the mess means that the fire was just recently put out. It looks like the mess is mostly rock though, so I don't know how that would go with my forest fire theory. The smoke makes the picture really erie looking, scary. There's only one man visible in the picture, pointing at something. in the last picture we did this free write for a man was also pointing at something...soo is there a correlation with that or is it just a coincendence? I can faintly see hills in the background of the picture. The angle this picture was taken at is really cool. It's really hard to make anthing else out because of all the smoke.

  9. Superman woke up after what was a long flight and a terrible landing. He was texting and flying when all of a sudden, he crashed into a flock of geese that were carrying kryptonite. His flight pattern then went all wrong. He was unable to regain control and therefore flew recklessly and landed with a crash. He hit the ground and left a crater the size of a meteor. He looked up once more time from his dirt pit and faded to unconsciousness. Unfortunately to him, he had fallen in such a remote place that nobody was near.

Three weeks had gone by and Superman remained in his crater. Nobody even noticed the half a football field wide hole in the ground. After the three weeks passed, a mysterious man who wore a helmet and yellow caution vest found him. He told all of his friends at his tea party about it. His friends were stuffed animals and yes he was crazy. Superman never regained consciousness.

  10. To the right of the image, there is a man in yellow. He is wearing a white helmet and seems to h ave a black bag on his back. Surrounding the man is rubble and smock. It is sark everywhere as everything is covered in black ashed. There seems to be burnt tree limbs and bark everwhere along aother pieces of rubble. In the ber back of the scene, there are still trees that are standing and seem to still be alive. The man is facing the side and has his right arm lifted up with a cleckcheed fist it looks like. This seems to be the scene of a fire. This scene fills me with sadness because it makes me think a fire has taken over and burned something down. The man in the yellow may be a fireman or some other type of safety person. He is there to rescue whoever and whatever may have been destroyed or in need of help. Some of the pieces of rubble look like there may have been a building once standing there. There could have been people inside of this building who are now trapped under the rubble or who have become victims of the fire. The man in the picture is searching for these people who may or may not have survived the fire. This scene seems dark and mysterious because there is not very much life in it besides the man in the yellow and the standing trees in the far background. There are trees that are burnt and dead. There is not really a definite sign of people besides the man in the yellow. But, since it seems to me that there was a building that burned down due to the size of the rubble, I imagine that there are people who may be trapped no longer alive. The smoke adds a since of danger and mystery because nothing is too clear especially in the background. The air is filled with smoke not allowing you to see clearly into the distance. The first thing I think of when I see smoke is fire which also gives off a sense of danger.

  11. The darkness throughout the picture creates a sad, lifeless feeling. I think that this picture is set in a war scene due to all the destroyed smokey debris on the ground. The trees in the background can barely be seen as with the person in yellow most likely to indicate that life is barely there. That little life survived this destruction. The broken wires sticking out of the debris leads me to think that it was a city that was destroyed instead of just an open battle field. That combined with the indication of little life left in this place would mean that many innocent people died. The man is wearing yellow and wearing a helmet which could mean he is in a hazardous suit. The way he is holding his hand up is a signal that he could be giving to another person which would imply there are others that are there and alive. Death is the first and initial feel gathered from this picture, but hope can also be seen from the life that is there.

  12. This picture is very gloomy and grey. It looks as if a fire or some type of natural distater has recently happened. The man in the picture could be a firefighter. His helmet strongly supports this idea. People do not usually have helmets on for the thril of it. The strange thing is that he is the only person in the picture. Maybe this man was the only person who knew about the disaster. The man could also represent a survivor of whatever happened here. He is wearing yellow, which could represent strength. Everything around is destroyed. There is debris and limbs everywhere. It looks smoky, which would mean that whatever happened was very recent. There is no telling where this scene takes place, since the only clues include landscaping and destruction. The trees look bear, which could mean two things. It could represent the season, which would be fall since that is when trees lose their leaves, or the trees could have been part of the possible fire and had its leaves burned off. However, I think that if the leaves were burned off, the actual tree would need to be a little destroyed also. The darkness of the picture sets the mood to be depressing. It makes me feel sad because there is really nothing good to look at in the picture.

  13. This picture makes me feel very tired and gloomy. It makes me wanna crawl into bed and sleep the day away. It reminds me of an early morning where fog rises from the ground and settles right above the grass. I could also see this picture being the remains of a forest fire. I can imagine that once a forest fire is put out, there would still be smoke looming around. Overall this poem makes me feel somehat sad. It could be a natural or man made disaster, or just a really gloomy day where the ground is warmer than the air; creating fog. The man in the picture seems like he is signaling to someone or giving the okay. There are endless posibilities in this picture. I like the idea that I can makeup a story on my own or come up with my own opinion.

  14. This picture is kind of sad and mysterious. I Think more sadness though because it looks like there was a fire. There is smoke coming off the ground and and everything is dark and destroyed. It looks as if there is rocks on the ground as if maybe a building stood there and it burned down. It might just be tree roots though pooping out of the ground from the trees falling. It it really hard to tell. I can tell there are fallen trees though. Their roots are above grounds and they look burnt and ashy perhaps. The trees in the background are hard to see, but the few I do see they look as if they are missing leaves and some branches. There is a guy standing in the smoke and he is wearing yellow. I believe he is a firefighter and is signaling someone. He has his fist up in the air, but I can make out if he is doing any hand gestures.

  15. This looks like the after-effect of a bomb or a forest fire. Everything is completely burned and turned to ash, so it could be either. There is a man in yellow who I'm assuming is there to assess damage or look for survivors or something of that nature. It looks very smoky, but it might also be fog. I guess it just depends. Along the ground there are piles of rocks and twisted trees, and in the distance a row of trees remains standing. The man is probably wearing yellow so that people can see him and so he can be easily identified as a rescue worker or whatever he is. He is the only thing with color in the picture. He is just one yellow spot on a whole page full of black and grey. It could be seen as a symbol of hope, even though I don't think yellow was a symbol for hope. Even though it is full of destruction, the eye is drawn to the worker, the one positive image. The fog/smoke is also really ominous. It seems like the event could be going on forever because the smoke keeps pouring out.

  16. Based on the smoke, the destruction, and the firefighter I assume this photo was taken after a fire. There really aren't many clues as to where this photo was taken. I assume because of the trees in the background that it was a wooded area, which could mean the fire was a wildfire. It appears that the fire is under control in the area in which the picture was taken, but the large amount of smoke in the air makes me think that there is a part of the fire still burning. The large amount of smoke also allows me to guess that it was a pretty large fire. There is only one person in the photo, but I know it takes more than one person to put out such a large fire so I am wondering where everyone else is.

  17. This picture makes me feel sad. It reminds me of some kind of natural disaster or some other kind of disaster. Hurricane Katrina, possibly, or maybe just a really bad tornado. It also looks like there may have been a forest fire. The man standing in the picture looks like someone who you would see putting back up power lines after a bad storm. He could also have been standing in the forest as the fire happened & is signaling for help to a helicopter. All together this picture makes me think of sadness & destruction. Whoever the photographer was did a very good job on getting the picture clear & easy to see. It has obviously not been taken with an average, every day camera. This has been taken with something much better than that. The picture captures the moment perfectly. My scenario is there was a man hiking in the woods. A raging wildfire breaks out & he is left helpless. He gets to his cellphone & calls for help. He stands in the midst of the fallen & burning trees, waiting for someone to arrive. When someone comes, he is standing there waving & guiding them to him. This picture just brings sadness & misfortune. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

  18. This picture is what is left over from a forest fire. We see the destruction and the carnage left by it. The man in the yellow would appear to be a firefighter. This man in holding something in the air and seems to be investigating it. The yellow stands out because it is juxtaposed to the black ruins of a fire. We can see the smoke and steam coming off the landscape. The few trees that survived in the background appear to have been damaged. The roots of the once present trees are sticking up from the ground, reaching for help from the inferno. Going back to the firefighter, we see he has a backpack, probably full of heavy equipment and other materials. This picture makes me wonder if he was caught in this fire and had to ride it out. I think this could be a logical reason because very rarely does one risk a vehicle and its operators in this types of fires. The heat and any still burning areas could damage the vehicle and cause it to stop or even explode if the fire reaches the fuel tank. I also think this fire burnt itself out because we still see smoke. A fire put out by a ground crew or by airplanes dropping water on it would still flare back up in a matter of minuets. The makes me wonder if this firefighter set a firebreak so the two would meet and burn themselves out. The lack of tools like shovels and rakes leads me to think this is the case as setting a firebreak would cause this fire to burn itself out from lack of fuel.

  19. In this picture it looks as if their was a zombie attack or something because there is smoke coming up and debree is everywhere. A person is in the midst of all the ash and ruble and is holding his fist up on a victory pump, like he was victorious in fighting the zombies off. It is very odd how he iswho ssur the only person to be standing in the midst of everything, like he is the only one who survived.

  20. This picture was taken as soon as a newsreporter arrived on the scene. The documentary on the Avengers was recently released as a fictional work to the public, little did they know, it was true. The various battles commenced by the Avengers are played off as natural disasters, which is incredibly surprising that the common poeple would beleive such malarchy. This is the latest battle to save earth, brought to you by the expiriements from the island of Hawaii by an alien scientiest. Most of these expiriements were given numbers such as 453 or 522 and so on. One in particular was given a name. Stitch. Stitch grew out of control and fled the small island of Hawaiito the forests of California. He was terrorizing the villages when the Avengers were assembled. This picture is of the final blow that destroyed the alien brought to you by Iron Man with one of his heat seaking laser missles. The Avengers were asked to leave the premesis as soon as the battle was over for obvious reasons. The estimated cost of the damage was around $34 billion. Which was easily paid for right off Tony Stark's credit card. The locals know what really happened but were also paid to keep quiet. The news reported that a wild fire broke out from a camp ground, causing a huge area of the forest to be turned to ash and mulch. Not very convincing.
