Hmm...Poetry?
How are you feeling about poetry right now? Still uncomfortable? Mildly comfortable? A pro? Explain how you are doing with the study of poetry at this point, almost a month in. What else do you need to know to feel comfortable?
I feel kind of comfortable with my poetry skills. I have a difficult time noticing the little things like the sounds in the poem but once I see them I understand them. I would like to continue working on poetry though.
I feel mildly comfortable with the study of poetry. I used to have trouble annotating, but probably only because I hadn't done it before. I have slight trouble seeing the more complex things in poems, like understanding all of the symbols and why the writers used them on my own, but when we talk about it in class it makes perfect sense.
I still feel uncomfortable with poetry. I guess I feel this way because I do not put enough time into reading and understanding poetry. More class discussion would help me a lot in understanding poetry.
I feel pretty comfortable about poetry right now. I am starting to understand most of things we talk about and I am able to pick them out by myself. Something I'm still not comfortable with is picking out different sounds in a poem. I understand what I'm looking for, I just have a really hard time finding it.
I'm somewhat comfortable with poetry at this point. I'm comfortable with interpreting meaning and emotion behind poems, but I'm not as good as I'd like to be at articulating what I interpret. The more technical aspects of poetry (iambic, pentameter, that kind of thing) still completely confuse me. An introduction to the technical aspects of poetry would help, but the biggest help would be continued practice.
I'm getting more comfortable with my poetry skills, but I'm still pretty terrible. The hardest part for me is not annotating, but actually understanding the meaning behind a poem. But really, I feel like that skill will just come in time with more practice and by reading more poems.
I feel a lot more comfortable with my poetry skills than when we first started. I think I'm a lot better with it than I expected to be. Annotating together in class has really helped me, but I still don't really know the literary objects like personification etc.
I feel mildly comfortable with poetry at this point. It is easy for me to recognize the obvious things like imagery and repitition but elements such as subject change and tone are more difficult for to me notice. I want to continue working on being able to recogize the more difficult elements as well as being able to understand the poem more fully.
Right now, I still feel a little uncomfortable with the poetry. I understand it more than I did at the beginning, what to look for and how to analyze it. I still don't know if I do it right on my own though. It is so much easier for me when we discuss it as a class and voice all of our opinions. I'm not sure what else I need to know, I think it will just take more practice to get it down and to be more comfortable with it.
I feel pretty comfortable with my poetry skills. I still need to practice how to get in depth with it and really think about what it "metaphorically" means. I can get what it literally means but when we go in depth to what the author is trying to tell us, I get lost. It depends on what poem we are reading. I'm not good at old English poems or poems that use a lot of words I don't really understand. Those are the poems I need to read a few more than just one time. I really like poetry, though. I always have and I always will. It always makes me think of music and I love music more than anything. Yes, I would like to continue doing poetry in this class.
I feel somewhat comfortable with my understanding of poetry. I am definitely not a pro and there is still much to learn, but I enjoy reading it. Some poems take me longer to understand than others because I do not know where to start analyzing. I am the type of person who likes literal meanings so I find it difficult to pull out other meanings within the text.
I feel midly comfortable. I am doing well whith the study of poetry right now. I have learned to look for patterns and sounds of letters that might reflect on the mood or tone of the poem. One thing that I feel that I could work wiht is finding the meaning or the poems. Yesterday it was a little difficult for me to find the real meaning of the poem. Other than that, i feel much mor confident with poetry.
I am still a bit uncomfortable with poetry. I feel better than I did the first day of class, but I do not feel perfectly comfortable yet. I feel like when I go to annotate or to discover what the poem is truly about, I get lost and do not know where to go from there. Sometimes, I find it hard to pick a point to start at. I think I will get better the more I do with it. It may just take some more practice to start to begin to feel more comfortable. Most of the time I feel like if I am pointed into a direction I can pick certain things out and make sense of what is going on. Other times, I usually just do not even know where to start or what to exactly look for.
I feel more comfortable with poetry than I did when we started. I wouldn't say I'm a pro, but I've definitely improved. I think the key for me was printing a copy of the poem and using pretty pens to annotate; I don't know why, but seems to work really well for me. I still have trouble picking every little thing out of a poem, but I think that skill will come more with time and practice.
I feel really confident in being able to understand poetry. I also feel very comfortable annotating poetry. I now know most of the secrets about annotating. What I would like to learn is how to identify rhythm and rhyme in a poem and learn more poetic vocabulary,
I feel comfortable with understanding poetry from already taking AP Language. Having the ability to annotate and know the different writing techniques allows me to focus more on the hidden meanings or tricks that make a poem so fascinating. Within this month of school I have been able to find different meanings for poems by widening my perspective on things.
I don't really like poetry, but I am mildly comfortable with it. I am doing okay with the study of it, but I feel like when I read a poem, I don't get everything out of it that I should. I do miss things when annotating poems. I think I just need to practice a little more and try to put more effort into the poem to understand it.
I feel much more comfortable with poetry than I did before this month. However, I am still somewhat uncomfortable with recognizing certain things about a poem such as its true meaning. I have learned how to properly annotate a poem, which has helped me recognize tone and other literary elements. In order to feel fully comfortable, I would like to keep studying poetry so I can become a pro.
